Assimilative capacity is defined as the ability of a body of water to cleanse itself; its capacity to receive waste waters or toxic materials without deleterious effects and without damage to aquatic life or humans who consume the water.
Discharge licence:
A discharge licence is a licence to discharge trade effluent (including cooling water) or sewage effluent to waters or to sewers, under the provisions of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Acts, 1977 and 1990.
Dewatering:
Dewatering is the removal of water from solid material or soil by pumping or evaporation. This is often done during the site development phase of a major construction project due to a high water table.
