| Groundwater resource development in Co. Donegal |
Minerex Environmental has successfully completed the Shannagh Lough Borewell Abstraction feasibility study, on the Fanad Peninsula.
The study involved the exploration and development of groundwater resources in a buried gravel filled channel associated with a large fault apparent in the surrounding landscape. A geophysical survey was conducted to identify the extent and nature of the buried gravels.
Subsequently a pilot borehole was drilled into the clean gravels adjacent to the Lough and a signficant supply was proven after a 7 day pumping test. The results of the feasiblity study suggest that further drilling in the clean gravels could provide the full water requirements of the scheme. |
| Groundwater resource development in Co. Louth |
Minerex Environmental have successfully completed a programme of groundwater exploration and development for a proposed development near Omeath, Co. Louth. The programme was designed to prove the availability of the development's requirement for large quantities of potable water from groundwater onsite.
Following a desk based study, which included a detailed examination of the bedrock geology and records for private wells in the area, a geophysical survey was carried out by our associate company, Minerex Geophysics. The survey identified a large vertical feature in the low permeability turbiditic bedrock underlying the site.
Subsequently, Minerex Environmental managed the drilling of an exploration borehole into this feature, by a local drilling company, which located a water-bearing igneous dyke intruded into the turbiditic bedrock. A 72-hour pumping test proved a well yield of more than double the development's original water requirements and water quality testing proved a potable supply.
Minerex Environmental provide a full range of hydrogeological services and offer a staged approach to groundwater resource exploration and development. |
